Explorations on 3D printed tissues/organs

3D bioprinting is an additive manufacturing method to assembly living cells in vitro, which could be widely used in tissue regeneration and drug screen. As the bioink is so soft, there are many challenges during printing with living cells.

Over the past ten years, our team has carried out a series of studies on the formation theory of photocurable bioink forming, serialized 3D printing processes, consumables and equipment. Here, we also reported some progresses about the construction of auditory nerve organoids, in situ bioprinting, and organ-level printing.

Yong He is a Professor at Zhejiang University, China. He serves as the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power and Mechatronic Systems, the Director of the Institute of Manufacturing Technology and Systems Engineering, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal Bio-Design and Manufacturing, and an Editorial Board Member for Biofabrication.

Professor He has long been dedicated to research in additive manufacturing and biomanufacturing. He is the Chief Scientist of the 'Engineering Science and Multidisciplinary Integration' special project under the National Key R&D Program of China. He has also led several projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Key Program, the Excellent Young Scientists Fund, and the Joint Fund Key Program.

He has published two monographs, holds over 50 authorized invention patents, and has authored more than 100 SCI-indexed papers in prestigious journals such as Science Translational Medicine, Nature Protocols, Nature Reviews Bioengineering, and Cell Biomaterials. He holds an H-index of 76 with over 21,000 citations.
