Research on Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) Metal Additive Manufacturing Technology
Powder bed metal additive manufacturing technology has been widely applied to the fabrication of complex structural components in aerospace, 3C precision parts, and medical implants. In response to emerging demands for high performance, high precision, and large-scale manufacturing, the research team has collaborated with an industrial partner to conduct research and equipment development in several cutting-edge areas, including multi-material processing, multi-laser systems, additive-subtractive hybrid manufacturing, and in-situ melt pool monitoring.
Di Wang is Associate Dean of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at South China University of Technology. His research focuses on quality control, equipment development, and innovative applications of metal additive manufacturing.
He was selected as a Young Changjiang Scholar by the Ministry of Education (2024) and has received the Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Young Scientist Fund and the Guangdong Special Support Program for High-Level Talents, among other honors. He has served as Principal Investigator of two projects under the National Key R&D Program of China and five National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects.
He has published more than 100 papers as first or corresponding author and received the Guangdong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award, two Second Prizes of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (ranked 1st and 2nd), and a First Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Technology Invention Award (ranked 2nd). He holds more than 40 granted international and domestic invention patents, with more than 20 patent technologies successfully commercialized. He has led the development of two national standards and participated in the development of 15 additional national standards.
