Physical Field-Driven Biomedical Systems:
From Optoelectronic Tweezers to Micro/Nano Robotics
Precise manipulation at the micro and nanoscale is opening new frontiers in biomedicine. In this talk, I will present our group's research on physical field-driven biomedical systems, organized around two major themes: light-driven control and magnetic-driven control. In the first part, I will introduce our optoelectronic tweezers (OET) platform, which exploits optically induced dielectrophoresis for non-contact, high-precision single-cell manipulation. I will highlight its application in high-throughput functional antibody discovery, significantly accelerating screening workflows for therapeutic targets including PD-L1 and UPAR. In the second part, I will present our magnetically driven systems, including micro/nano robots engineered for targeted drug delivery, programmable in vivo navigation, and minimally invasive intervention, as well as our capsule robot platform for autonomous gastrointestinal diagnostics and therapy, featuring wireless actuation, real-time sensing, and closed-loop control. Together, these platforms reflect a unified vision of harnessing physical fields — light and magnetism — to precisely control biological systems across scales, bridging fundamental physics with clinical translation.
